Russia will "diligently" move to buy most of Russia's oil and gas output with the help of newly privatised state company Rosneft, President Vladimir Putin has told the Kremlin-owned television network Russia 1.
Mr Putin said the deal to sell more than 50% of Rosneft would be one the largest ever in Russia and was line with the country's economic growth strategy.
As the deal was announced, he said "very happy and satisfied".
But Mr Putin was accused of meddling in the bidding process, and warned sanctions over the Ukraine crisis could threaten deal.
The president promised Russian state television he would take part in the bidding process "on equal terms".
Mr Putin was speaking at a ceremony in which he took the place of current head State Duma (lower house of parliament), Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
The new state-controlled Russia 1 channel will begin broadcasting in Russia on Friday. Television is currently regulated by the federal broadcasting authority, Roskomsvoboda (Rosskom).

Rosneft is already Russia's largest private company, owning half of the country's reserves. But it has not been able to find a buyer for its stake - until now.
