JAMES BECKINSALE, MSC, BTA L3
James has been coaching/ training people for endurance since the early 90’s. In 2000 he founded Optima Racing Team with athlete’s performance in mind. His objective was to create a team environment where individual athletes could reach their potential through a structured coaching system around West London.
This vision has been realised having coached novice age group triathletes to medal at World, European and in Ironman competition, along with the odd (AG) World Champion!
Over the past couple of years James has taken novice children as young as 13/ 14 and helped develop them to a elite U23 level. Also helping novice junior athletes gain selection to the GB talent programme. Since 2008 he has also been committed to helping other young athletes around the London area, not part of our club structure, in his role as the London Academy Head Coach.
James has been coaching triathlon now since the late 90’s, the knowledge gained over this time & his thirst for answers to tricky coaching questions, undoubtedly helped at the 2012 Olympics where he helped Gillian Sanders to 19th at the triathlon, after she went from a full time city lawyer to Olympian in only 18 months.
James has made coaching his vocation with his main long term goal “to be 75 years old with grey hair still coaching athletes, consistently help them perform to the best of their ability.

Claire Wood BTF L1
Claire was another parent dropping off & picking up her son (& friends!) from training, seeing how much her son was getting out of the sport & the environment at Optima Racing Team, she decided she wanted to put something back. Claire went off and did her L1 coaching course and is now a very keen assistant coach with our team.
