Optima Ironman weekend

What a weekend for the team, with three big Ironman efforts and some special performances!

Steve and Kirill both took on Ironman Kalmar and came away with brilliant sub-10-hour finishes! Kalmar is known for being a fast course, with a relatively flat bike taking athletes through the Swedish countryside and across the Öland Bridge before heading back towards Kalmar for the run. The run is a mix of quieter sections and plenty of support around the city. Kirill’s day definitely wasn’t made any easier after picking up two punctures on the bike , but he kept his head down, and still managed to break 10 hours. Steve also had a fantastic day to get comfortably under that 10-hour mark.

Closer to home Alan took on Ironman Leeds, a very different challenge with a tough, hilly bike course through the Yorkshire countryside, including the infamous Black Hill climb. Unfortunately, the swim was cancelled, so it wasn’t quite the Ironman day Alan had planned for. Even more impressive, he was heading into the race having not run for 10 weeks due to injury. Despite all of that, Alan dug deep and made it to the finish line.  Alan was racing to raise money for Lowther School in Barnes, helping to raise funds for a brilliant cause.

Huge congratulations Steve, Kirill and Alan! What a weekend!
